The Dusty Track people never cease to amaze us. This latest edition they added two more rough riders to their Dusty track event, the “CARAMAGEDDON”. Using the same dusty circuit where the motorbikes rode, a car race was formed in the pure “demolition derby” style, where the main goal is not to reach the finish line first, but to smash your neighbor's car or push it off the track. This is not surprising, because there was barely room for one car in the lane.
The specifications were very simple: chassis, engine, and steering wheel. The rest is pure paraphernalia, reducing a utility vehicle to its minimum expression. The white smoke coming from the engines and exhaust pipes was an added bonus to the competition; we don't know if it was to distract the opponent or if that low-displacement engineering simply had minutes left to live.
We thank the Dusty Track team for their hospitality and also for not mixing "churros with merinas" (meaning, not mixing apples and oranges), that is, for not having cars and motorcycles on the track at the same time. Something that, on the way to the event, we weren't very clear about. But they very kindly clarified that they didn't have enough ambulances to take away amputated organs, which is why they decided not to mix. We continue to hope that for the next edition there will still not be that necessary number of ambulances.
A fantastic, dusty day, which was quite bad for the carburetor's air filter on our Derbi Variant Demolition; we could barely complete 3 laps without having to clean it.
It was a pleasure to meet again with the people from Tone Up, Trinta & Um Garaje, the photographer Ana Pina, and many more people related to Dusty Track.
A great discovery was meeting The Portuguese Moustache, a highly recommended local blog, and Mulamotorcycles, with whom we had a good duel on the track for as long as the carburetor filter allowed us.
Here are some of our photos and others from photographers there.
