The Saint of Surf

Regarding surfing, at Machete Company we're not big fans of Stand-Up Surfing, more commonly known as Paddle Surf, but the following character, whom we're about to introduce, piqued our curiosity.

Angel Salinas, originally from Puerto Escondido, a beach located in the San Pedro de Mixtepec district, belonging to the Mexican state of Oaxaca. He's a true whale of a man, weighing 105 kilos and standing 1.78 meters tall, and you can often see him decked out in his sessions at the "Mexican Pipeline" with a Mexican wrestling mask.

He has earned great respect in the water, not only for his authentic look but for charging the hollowest and gnarliest waves of Zicaleta, the "Mexican Pipeline." He claims to be the first Mexican to have ridden a tube with his SUP at this famous beach.

His quiver ranges from 9'6" to 11 feet, depending on conditions. A smaller board for better maneuvers, the 10'3" is more versatile and, above all, makes paddling easier. Finally, the 11-foot board is for serious sizes and gives him greater stability and security to ride those giants of his fetish wave, Zicatela.

Of course, he is a big fan of Mexican wrestling, besides obviously surfing and international football matches, as well as Japanese food and clearly his native Mexican cuisine.

He owns a Surf Shop, Central Surf Shop in Puerto Escondido, and also has his own clothing line including swimsuits, t-shirts, pants, etc. Also, for those interested in taking a trip to the area, they have a series of highly recommended apartments for rent.

Here are some images of "El Santo del Surf," HE IS PURE JUNGLE !!!
