La Kampsa is a skatepark located between Pasaia and Donosti (Guipuzkoa). A place where, since its inception and throughout the years, a multitude of self-managed activities have been developed around music and skateboarding, as it is an occupied property.
Following a deep economic depression in the Pasaia region in the 80s, one of the many abandoned factories in the area, in '92, some old changing rooms of the well-known Campsa company became a meeting place for some local kids. What was initially a place to meet, gradually and with great effort, became an important driver of activities in the area.
They resisted numerous eviction attempts until 10 years later there was no other option but to abandon it and look for a new one.
And as every cloud has a silver lining, this second location, very close to the previous one and also belonging to the same company, was the genesis of the best Iberian skatepark built under the "Do it Yourself" (DIY) philosophy. Thanks to the determination and effort of a group of people with a common objective and denominator, entirely selflessly.
"Kampsa. 20 years of dreams and rubble" is a documentary by Dani López Martínez / cuatroyunacámara, which has recently been awarded as the best skate documentary at the III Madrid Skate Film Festival. From Machete Company, we congratulate him!!!! Both Dani and the people who made this great project possible!!!
