Skatopia is a pure DIY (Do it yourself), non-profit skatepark created by a community of 50 skaters, or as they call themselves, CIA agents of skateboarding. It is located in southern Ohio, on the outskirts of the town of Rutland, USA. There, you can breathe in a quite anarchic atmosphere with some very "Redneck" characters. But this does not take away from the fact that they are very socially aware and spread their counterculture and transgressive politics through their blog or social media. The space features an outdoor bowl park, an indoor full pipe, and finally, the “Church of Skating,” a massive wooden bowl with pool coping, also covered. They also have a skateboard museum open to the public, where you can find many gems of skateboarding gear from the distant past up to the present day. Beyond being politically committed, they have created a graphic design company on the premises called CIA LLC (Creative Intelligent Artist). With over 20 years of history, it has been an essential stop on tours for many brands and magazines, from Thrasher’s “King of the Road” to, in recent months, its appearance in the Transworld Skateboarding video “We Are Blood.” A large number of metal-oriented bands have also passed through its facilities for parties and events. About 3 years ago, Skatopia released a documentary video where you can perfectly see their vision of skateboarding, life, and chaos.
